The Label
Controlteam is a Los Angeles house and techno label, established in 1995. The catalogue runs deep and melodic — machine music with a jazz undertow, cut to last rather than to chase a moment.
It is also a licensing and publishing house. Over the years, the exclusive rights to records first issued on other labels have reverted, and the catalogue is now administered in one place, through Controlteam.
Recent years have brought a steady run of new music and reissues — deep collaborations with Pablo Bolívar (Blacklight, Never In Mind, Trust), the career-spanning Selects compilations, and vault reissues like Breathing Engine, cut from original 1995 DATs.
More than a single imprint, Controlteam is the mothership for a family of projects — its Bandcamp has grown into a record store for the whole catalogue. The label Visage and the band Minor FX (whose first records came out here) both trace back to it. Day to day, it's run by label manager Tim Humphreys.
